Data analysis for growth: from spreadsheets to decisions
Why most companies should start their AI journey with rigorous analysis of the data they already have, and how to do it in weeks.
Before models, before agents, there is a question worth answering: what does our data already tell us that we're not acting on? A focused exploratory analysis often delivers more value in four weeks than a six-month AI programme, and it produces the clean, understood dataset that any later model will need.
What a good analysis engagement looks like
- One decision in scope. Budget allocation, churn drivers, pricing, capacity: pick one.
- All the sources in one place. Exports are fine at this stage; a warehouse can come later.
- Honest write-ups. What the data supports, what it doesn't, and what would be needed to know more.
- A dashboard the team keeps. Built around the decision, not around every available metric.
A short example
A D2C brand had three platforms and three different revenue numbers. Four weeks of consolidation and cohort analysis showed which channels actually converted; reallocating spend lifted conversion by roughly 18% the following quarter. No machine learning was involved, just clean data and clear questions.
When to reach for AI
When the analysis reveals a repeated prediction or classification that people are doing by hand, you have found your first model. When it reveals a repeated multi-step process, you have found your first automation. Analysis first makes both faster and safer.
